Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
IN MEMORY OF MY GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS MARTIN - miss and love you so, so, so ,so, much.
UPDATE - MAY 2014 - On 11 May 2014 we (my family, friends and I) will be once again attempting to complete the OVER THE EDGE BIKE RIDE. Amazingly we have increased the numbers attempting this in our group alone and I am very touched by the response we have had - realising the true test of our friends support and loyalty. THANK YOU ALL FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.
This year I hope to attempt the silver route of 29 miles - so need your support more than ever, not in donations but in the emotional sense, I need to keep the fire in my belly going. Please keep your messages of support coming in online it really does help me immensely. Over the last year we really have come to realise the full extent of the loyalty of our true friends, you know who you are ! My family are amazing and I could not wish for better, we just keep getting stronger - don't we guys? ! I LOVE YOU ALL SO VERY VERY MUCH XX
Also check out Lindsey Tully's (my eldest daughter) page - to check out how much she has raised - well done Lindsey - am so very proud of you - you have worked tirelessly to raise money for the Heart Foundation - you have achieved so much, having four children - how do you find the time? All my children have been the best a mum could have, YOUR DAD WOULD BE SO PROUD OF YOU ALL.
HISTORIC
In the month of May 2013, I will be cycling 22 miles (35k) in the David Geldard Over the Edge Bike Ride on 19 May AND I will be running 10k in the Bupa Great Manchester Run on 26 May. I am doing this to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. Please read my story below:
On 20 August 2012 In a split second my life as I knew it changed forever. Without any prior warning my gorgeous, gorgeous husband Martin Hughes collapsed and died in front of my eyes. I attempted CPR but couldn't save the most important person in my life. We now know he died from a sudden ischemic heart event (heart disease).
I am doing this to raise awareness to heart disease as Martin was a fit and healthy man, always lead a healthy lifestyle, didn't smoke or have any of the risk factors associated with the condition. We were not aware of any family history but inherent factors have to begin somewhere.
I am taking part in the two events above to raise money for the British Heart Foundation but also to thank my wonderful family and close friends for all their love and support, without which I could not go through this truly awful time - we have a long way to go - so 22 miles on a bike and 10k on the run should be easy in comparison. I am not a runner but I am a fitness fanatic and the last time I road a bike apart from in the gym was on holiday in 2011. I will be taking part in the bike ride alongside my wonderful daughter and her husband Lindsey and David - David encouraged me to take part in the 10k and will be taking part with me, thank you David. I really cannot thank you all enough - your support has been truly overwhelming. I am blessed to have such a wonderful family and supportive friends.
Those of you who knew Martin will know what a wonderful man he was - a man of integrity - hard-working, brave, fearless, loyal and faithful always, a man who put the needs of others before himself. I know how fortunate I am to have had nearly 41 years with him and this is keeping me sane. We have a unique bond which will never be broken and he will remain in my heart always. Martin lives on through our 3 wonderful children, 4 fantastic grandchildren and mum, dad and brother - he is a legend to us and adored by all who have known him. I miss him madly.
