Story
The Transforming Liver Care Appeal : we need to re-write the future for children with liver disease.
In 2018, at the age of 11 my youngest Niece was diagnosed with a rare liver disease called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, Charlotte had been unwell and under hospital investigations for some time when she finally received this diagnosis from the specialists at King's College Hospital in London.
I've heard countless stories of the care, time & attention all the staff at this Hospital have taken in caring for Charlotte and her family, I wanted to pay something back to this specialist team and their ongoing care and research.
King’s Paediatric Liver Centre is a national hub carrying out pioneering research and providing a highly-specialised service to children with life-threatening liver problems, it's the largest centre of it's kind and they treat 3000 young patients from across the UK.
I've met patients of King's Hospital in my new Village in Lymington, and my Sister-In-Law has also met parents of patients from all over the Country whilst there for Charlotte's care...there is no limit to the reach King's have to help these children.
King's TLC Appeal wants to transform liver care for children and young people, to advance research and to move from these children surviving their liver disease, to thriving in adulthood.
Please help me in supporting this worthwhile cause, with every struggled step I take in training for this run, I think of how strong my Niece has been in fighting her disease. Please help me change the future for children and young people with liver disease.
*CORONAVIRUS UPDATE* Due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic, the Lymington RNLI 10k has been cancelled this year. I therefore will run this 10k distance alone following my own route. My own health permitting, I will then also sign up to do the New Forest Marathon 10k in September if it goes ahead.
