Story
Excellent Development works with community self-help groups in rural Kenya to create water and food security through soil and water conservation. Groups work together to transform their environment by building sand dams, terracing land and planting trees.
One sand dam will provide year-round clean water for 1,200 people for less than seven pounds per person. Communities are trained to carry out the minimal maintenance required so that they can manage the new water resource, which will last for up to fifty years and will be refilled every time it rains.
Kenya London News is partnering with Excellent Development to raise the funds for Wendano Wa Kimangau Self-Help Group to build a sand dam for their community.
