Story
“Behind every successful woman is a tribe of other successful women who have her back.”
At the World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2017 in Vancouver, #WDP36 celebrated the amazing work that women are doing in drowning prevention. For the World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2019 in Durban, we want to take the initiative a step further - we want to support the next generation of women in drowning prevention. We want to offer brilliant women in drowning prevention the opportunity to attend WCDP19 even if it is beyond their financial means. This is the beginning of the Women in Drowning Prevention Scholarship.
“You can tell who the strong women are. They’re the ones building each other up.”
It will cost approximately USD1300/GBP1000 for a woman from a Southern African country to attend WCDP19 (including registration fees, accommodation, travel and daily expenses). For many women in the region, that means that attending the conference is a luxury they cannot afford.
If each of the women on the #WDP36 list donated USD40/GBP30, we could provide a scholarship to cover all of the costs of attending WCDP19 for one woman. If each of those #WDP36 women asked three other women in her network to contribute the same amount, we could immediately provide full scholarships to four women.
“Alone we are strong… Together we are stronger.”
If you are excited about #WDP36 actively supporting the growth of #WDP50 and #WDP100, please donate to the Women in Drowning Prevention Scholarship fund, and more importantly, share with the other wonderful women you know who are committed to empowering other women in drowning prevention.
Nile Swimmers have kindly agreed that we can use their bank account to collect funds for this and that all funds raised will be restricted to scholarships only. This means that UK taxpayers can use Gift Aid to contribute an extra 20 % at no cost to them.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
