Story
Sarah & Helen are taking part in the 2022 Baggies Bike Challenge to raise funds for the Albion Foundation. Helen took part in the ride in 2018 but this will be Sarah’s first time on the team! Both riders will be cycling 178 miles from Fulham FC’s Craven Cottage to the Hawthorns in time for the evening fixture between the two clubs.
The Albion Foundation runs a number of initiatives in support of the local community, including Alzheimer’s cafes, food parcel deliveries, educational initiatives in schools to help those that are struggling to achieve, mentoring and improving attainment with children in care
or foster homes, opening up opportunities in disability sport, running sports initiatives in anti-social hot-spots and supporting sports development for girls. The Foundation went above and beyond during the pandemic: 110,000 food parcels delivered, 10,500 phone calls made by ex-players to the elderly and over 7,000 educational sessions delivered!
Sarah & Helen are both members of Proud Baggies, West Bromwich Albion FC's LGBTQ+ Supporters' Group and are proud to be representing the group on this challenge.
Sarah says “I’ve watched the annual bike challenge from a distance for a few years and have always been keen to get involved, so I’m delighted to be asked to take part. To bring together my two passions in Albion & cycling is too good an opportunity to pass up, and to do it while raising money for the foundation is perfect. The work that they do is fantastic, and they really need all the support that we can give them. They provide vital support in the local community, and their work during the pandemic was amazing!
Helen says “This charity is close to my heart as my family have always loved West Bromwich Albion. As locals to the Hawthorns my mom used to go to games as a young woman and my dad has also stuck with them all these years! I know many of you have already given to my fundraising over the years and I am perhaps pushing it to ask for you to open your wallets yet again but it would be great if you could donate something, however small, to help this amazing charity.”
Thanks for your donation!
