Story

Thank you for visiting our Just Giving Page.

In 2018 my son Rafe arrived a terrifying 3 months early weighing only 2lbs 4ozs. We were very lucky that he was born at Bradford Royal Infirmary and cared for in the fantastic neonatal unit. The medical expertise, kindness and care of the team at the unit is outstanding. He is such a smiley boy and has just celebrated his first birthday, something we barely dreamed possible when he was born.

We owe a big thanks to all at the unit for the part they played in helping him through the first few months when he was so small.

The unit is one of the top neonatal units in the country, caring for babies weighing as little as 1lb from not only Bradford but many surrounding cities like Leeds, York and Harrogate. The unit offers additional facilities to support families, all funded by charitable donations, such as parent overnight en suite accommodation, kitchen facilities, sibling toys, reclining chairs, memory folders… the list goes on! These facilities were so important to us while Rafe was a patient and I cannot begin to imagine how much more important these facilities are for the families of very poorly babies and families who live far away from the hospital.

The team at Watson Buckle are taking part in the dragon boat race at Saltaire in June to raise money for this amazing cause; any donations you can make would go a long way to helping the unit to continue to provide the invaluable add ons to the standard care that the NHS can fund.

Thank you Gillian - Rafe's Mummy
