Story
I'm running the Manchester Marathon on 16th April to help raise money for the Snowdrop Suite at Wythenshawe hospital, a cause very close to our hearts which is funded purely by charitable donations.
Here's our story:
In September 2014, Sophie and I were given the devastating news that our baby had lethal skeletal dysplasia and would not survive. The only option was to have a natural childbirth, and a few days later, our beautiful baby was born asleep in Snowdrop Suite at Wythenshawe Hospital.
Nothing could have prepared us for this utterly heartbreaking time. To never see your baby open their eyes, never hear them cry. No one can ever prepare themselves to be told they won't be able to take their baby home, the pain was incomprehensible and something we'll never forget.
But the support we received through the Snowdrop Suite was amazing - the doctors, nurses and midwives looked after us with so much compassion, love and care. They were incredible and made the most difficult time in our lives a little bit easier.
All the money I raise will be donated directly to The Snowdrop Suite to help ensure that families going through a similar experience have a private place to have their baby. The Snowdrop Suite allows mothers to give birth to their baby away from the normal maternity unit, where other mums are giving birth to healthy babies at the same time. It is a self-contained area and allows mums and dads as much quiet time, before and after labour, as they need.
