Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising funds to help the work of Great Ormond Street Hospital's families centre.

Funds are needed to,

  • provide accommodation for parents to stay overnight
  • pay towards a parent’s bed in our new building
  • Allows the parents to be with their child 24/7 whilst they are in CCU or HDU

My association with Great Ormond Street first came about when I raised funds for Stefan Savic, a 4 year old from Bosnia, to have facial reconstruction surgery there.  I was struck by the skill and dedication of the staff and their support of Stefan's family who had travelled with him.

I continued to support  and raise money for Stefan over the last ten years and in 2014 he returned to the UK and GOSH for his penultimate operation.  Again this wonderful hospital and its commendable staff allowed his/our dream to come true, and for this I am eternally grateful.

So, when I had finished raising the money for Stefan I decided I wanted to do something not just for one family but for all families with children who needed this hospital's help.  Raising funds for Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital Families Centre is the best way to do this.

The Liferaft Survival Challenge

To raise the money I will  be spending 7 days and nights surviving in a life raft, measuring just 1.2 cubic meters.  This is supplied by one of the main sponsors for the event "Ocean Safety" of Southampton. I will mimic a sea survival situation by entering the raft with 24 hours food and water, surviving the rest.  Not only will this bring valuable funds to this wonderful hospital but, it will allow Professor Mike Tipton and Dr. Joe Costello the chance to gain vital information into how the body copes, survives, adjusts and adapts to this situation.  They will carryout much needed tests on me through this adventure, with all the information potentially helping others survive, either at sea or on land.  Please visit my site for more information:  www.wayneingram.com
