Fundraising for Velindre Cancer Centre
Story
Our beloved daughter Rhian and sister to Rhys passed away aged just 25 years of age in June 2012 from Cervical Cancer after a long and traumatic battle against the disease.
During this period both she and our family received fantastic support from Velindre Cancer Centre which included additionally, cutting edge expert treatment for Rhian which regrettably failed in her case.
As more and more people are now thankfully surviving and living with cancer the ongoing demand for continued support and continued treatment at Velindre is increasing and therefore every penny raised now is as vital as ever to maintain the levels of treatment and care that so many families have been accustomed to and rely on at Velindre .
All money raised through us will be paid directly into Rhian,s Charity Fund at Velindre (THE RHIAN GRIFFITHS FORGET ME NOT FUND)which to date has raised over 918565 pounds through the hard work and generosity of support of many who have helped us as a family for which we are very grateful,....as a consequence there has been for example complete refurbishment of an extensive family room for use of relatives when loved ones are inpatients on ward ,provision of WI FI for the whole hospital ,, contributions are periodically made to various counselling and other therapy programmes and also on going regular contributions to Velindre which pays for much needed research into cures for all forms of cancer and into other related treatments
Additionally Rhian’s Fund has periodically funded the specialist nurse programme at Velindre in conjunction with other charities with 15 nurses now in post
We have also allocated 110000 pounds as a contribution over 3 years towards the cost of the appointment of a an Advanced Specialist Physiotherapist at the Therapy Unit at Velindre
We receive regular requests for funds to be released which we are able to assess in conjunction with Velindre on a case by case basis and we therefore are able to have direct input into targeting areas of most need from our experience as a family
We want to continue this work indefinitely to help in a small way to benefit patients and aid the amazingly dedicated work of all medical staff and volunteers at the Centre
