The Transformation Trustwww.transformationtrust.org.uk

The Transformation Trust is a social mobility charity dedicated to opening the doors of opportunity to young people across the UK. They do this by working with some of the most challenged schools in the country, offering their pupils opportunities and experiences that help them to develop employability skills and build their confidence.

This summer five teams are taking part in a 5,895 metre challenge – a trek up Mount Kilimanjaro.

Each team comprises three members of a company, along with three students and a teacher from a school in The Transformation Trust’s network. Each student is paired with a Business Mentor who will join the whole group on a training climb in the Peak District in June.

The money raised from the trek will fund additional activities for the Trust’s network of schools, providing children from deprived and challenged communities with extracurricular opportunities and experiences that would otherwise be inaccessible to them. The activities are genuinely fun, but they also help equip them with core skills, such as numeracy, communication and technological fluency, which are valued in the workplace and will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the most personally fulfilling challenges, and will not only provide volunteers with a sense of accomplishment but a sense of pride at having made a huge difference to the lives of disadvantaged children.

Between inception of the Trust in May 2009 and July 2012 The Transformation Trust has provided:

  • 794 schools in deprived areas with access to enriching activities;
  • 51,591 young people with the chance to learn new skills, discover hidden talents, and enjoy new experiences;
  • 1,316,671 hours of high quality music, drama, enterprise, science, community and sports activities.
