2.5 million Muslims from around the world would performed Hajj this year had it not bee for the risks of coronavirus.
They would have walked an average of 72km each, the pilgrimage .
Authorities in Makkah make exemplary provision to facilitate the needs of pilgrims, including safe, clean and cold water access for all. It is estimated they would have distributed 10 million cubic meters of water in the the city over the Hajj season.
Abundant water to quench the thirst of all.
785 million people across the globe go thirsty each and every single day.
Without safe and clean water to drink, these people risk dehydration, disease and at worse: death.
Every day, communities across the globe are in need safe sources of water for drinking, washing, cooking, rearing livestock and watering crops. Yet for these millions of people, this simple essential is out of reach.
Islamic Relief is working in over 40 countries across the globe to ensure that communities have safe and reliable sources of water not only for today, but for life.
To tackle the global water crisis and keep the spirit of Hajj alive, this year Islamic Relief has set a global challenge to walk, jog, run or cycle 72km over the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah, and raise funds to provide clean and safe water to families in desperate need.
I've taken on that challenge and pledged to raise £300 and hope to provide life-saving access to water to those most in need.
I've planned my 10 days, tightened my laces and set myself the responsibility to run the 72km.
I'll be posting my progress daily on social media and asking for your love and support as I run through this challenge. (Also I'd encourage those of you able to take on the challenge yourselves!)
Together we can help provide the key to all life, water.
Water for all
