Assalamu Alikum,
uOttawa Muslim Students Association and Carleton University Muslim Students’ Association are raising funds to build a water well in East Africa with IDRF.
Our beloved Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) said: "None of you will believe until you love for your brother what you love for yourself." {Sahih al-Bukhari}.
He also taught us that "The upper hand (the one that gives) is better than the lower hand (the one that receives)" {Sahih al-Bukhari}.
‘The Messenger of Allah (SAW) was asked, “Which charity is best?” He replied, “[Providing] water”’. [Abu Dawud]
The Situation In East Africa
Water resources in East Africa are incredibly scarce and are not managed correctly in the region. Due to the effects of climate change, such as common droughts and flooding, water sources are either contaminated or dry.
Since surface water is often not sufficiently available during periods of drought, the region has a relatively high level of groundwater.
The scarcity and the contamination of water are additionally adding to health problems across the region. Water pollution, lack of sanitation, and poor hygiene is causing an increase in infectious (transferable) and non-infectious (non-transferrable) diseases.
How can you help?
IDRF, in partnership with local communities in countries like Malawi, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Sudan, is addressing these ongoing issues by building water wells.
One water well provides water to 400 people in villages and 5000 people in towns.
Build a well, build a community.
