Story
In April 2009 Paula was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Throughout the rest of her life Paula had to battle each round of chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy, but was positive and grateful for all the help she had from the various Drs and Nurses, especially in the Marlbrook Suite in Kidderminster.
In late 2015 we were given the devastating news the cancer had spread and were advised to contact Macmillan. Paula was adamant not to see them and the meeting was put off until the New Year prior to starting further treatment.
Both an occupational therapist and a nurse came to see us, and spent time discussing treatments, practical solutions to mobility issues and lend an ear to any family member who needed it.
Only a short time later, Paula took a turn for the worse, and we again called on Macmillan for advise. They immediately took control and ensured Paula was able to pass away peacefully at home surrounded by family the following day.
The pilgrimage in Northern Spain takes you to the shrine of St.James the Great in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, where tradition has it that the remains of the saint are buried. Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims and others set out each year to complete the route across various paths, we will be taking the less popular Camino Ingles.
The walk will be our tribute to a wonderful brave lady who we miss like crazy, and we only hope that we will not moan of sore feet or heavy rucksacks as we stomp 110km in four days(!?) from Ferrol Docks to Santiago de Compostela in her memory.
