Story

Wallingford School will be embarking on an 8-mile sponsored walk on Wednesday 17 October.  The whole school, students and staff are raising money, with the support of our wider community, for a charity that is close to the heart of Wallingford School.  Brightwell Primary School will be joining in the walk this year for the first time.

This year we are raising money for Maeve's Magical Journey, which is under the Tree of Hope Charity. Maeve is a student at Brightwell Primary School. She was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at fifteen months old. She is unable to stand or walk unsupported, but she is very determined to achieve this and more.

Maeve now has the opportunity of a life changing operation, which requires a considerable programme of physiotherapy and rehabilitation afterwards. Maeve will need to relearn key skills and work hard to get back to her pre-operation abilities. Maeve and her family are raising funds for her recovery programme, which is estimated to cost around £15,000 per year for the next three years. After which, the costs will lessen.

Tree of Hope supports children and young people with disability or illness by helping their families in raising money to pay for specialist medical care that is not available freely through the NHS.

Maeve and her family have had significant support from Tree of Hope and are now delighted to have the opportunity, with Wallingford School, Brightwell School and our local community to raise vital funds and awareness for this amazing charity and for Maeve's Magical Journey.
