Story
Sadly, my brother’s life was cut short by the incurable Motor Neurone Disease. At the time, I made a silent promise to him that I would do what I could to raise awareness and funds for MND research and help prevent others having to suffer a similar fate.
I completed my “Walk with me 4 MND” in 2022 from the Algarve, Portugal to Salisbury in the UK, where my brother lived. I was hugely grateful for the support I received and raised an incredible £42,598 for the My Names’5 Doddie Foundation. So, it is now time for my next challenge!
With another walk out of the question this year I have set the target of completing possibly the world’s largest jigsaw puzzle of 54,000 pieces, measuring 28.35ft x 6.69ft called “Travel around Art!”.
Sponsoring opportunities available as follows:
- €1 per puzzle piece.
- Puzzle with me for €20 per hour.
- Sponsor a piece of art – 57 framed artworks within the puzzle. See attached.
- Sponsor an article within the puzzle.
- Sponsor one of the four corner pieces.
- Silent auction bid for the last piece to be placed by the highest bidder with a local celebrity present.
This challenge will be livestreamed so you can check in and follow the progress at any time!
I invite you to sponsor me with donations via my Just Giving link below. All sponsors are invited to guess the number of hours taken to complete the puzzle. The closest guess will win a 2-night stay at Boutique Hotel Quinta Jacintina.
George "Doddie" Weir is a Scottish former rugby union player who made 61 international appearances for the Scotland national team. Since being diagnosed himself with MND, he set up a Charitable Foundation. I like the idea of supporting a small organisation where one can be assured the money raised will go to research projects with the minimum spent on administration.
