Story

Hi, I am Erin.  I am 10 years old.  I am trying to raise money for my little brother Max who has Cerebral Palsy, to help him walk and give him a better life.  On Sunday 22nd December I plan to walk from my home in Whetstone into the middle of London to raise money for Max.  It's 10 miles so quite a challenge!!

Like my brother, I was born very, very, premature, at 26 weeks weighing 1lb 8oz.  I had a difficult first 3 months, but I am absolutely fine now. Max was born at 25 weeks. He was not as lucky as me!  On his second day of his life his tiny lungs collapsed and he had a huge bleed on the brain. This left him with Cerebral Palsy.  He had a tough first year! He had a machine breath for him for the first 5 weeks of his life and was on oxygen for 8 months. He spent most of his first year in and out of hospitals.  He’s got ‘fluid on the brain’ and had brain surgery to fit a special thing called ‘a shunt’ in his head to drain the fluid away.  He will have this for the rest of his life.  It can, and has, blocked.  When it does block, he needs to have brain surgery to fix it within a day, which is really scary!

Max is now 7 years old. He is very funny and I love him! When he was born the doctors told mummy and daddy ‘he may not be able to do anything or he may be lucky and have a slight limp or be really bad at maths’. He has had a lot of ups and downs, but is doing really well now. He is able to walk with some support for short distances and uses a walker or a special buggy. Mummy and daddy found something called Spider Therapy in Oxford. It is very special and has made a huge difference to Max. It has helped him to walk and do more for himself, which means he can play more with his friend and me.

Spider therapy, or ‘spuder foofoopy’ as I call it, costs lots of money. Max really needs it a few times a year. He also really wants a bike, like other kids. A special needs trike cost thousands of pounds! It will really help to make his legs stronger and he can then play more with me and his friends.

I really want to help Max. Please sponsor me for my ‘big walk to the Max’.  Remember every penny counts!!!!!

Love Erin
