Story

Last May, as we walked away from the Millenium Stadium after achieving promotion back to the Premiership, I joked to Rob (my friend from Nottingham) that we wouldn’t be coming back to Cardiff but instead going off to Wembley for the Cup Final ! Rob replied that if that happened, he would walk – I immediately said “OK” thinking there was no chance !

As the season developed, the realisation that  it was a possibility has grown closer and after West Ham beat Man City in the Quarter Finals, Rob & I agreed that if it really did happen, we would both still be up for it – even though we knew it would be Cardiff after all and not Wembley !

Last Sunday, on a memorable occasion (for us anyway !) West Ham reached the FA Cup Final for the first time in 26 years and we are now committed to walking 160 miles from Nottingham to Cardiff through Burton-on-Trent, Sutton Coldfield, Droitwich, Ledbury, Monmouth and Newport.

Rob, Duncan (Rob's son), his friend Stuart and myself are hoping to complete the whole walk.

I know Rebecka, my eldest daughter, will be doing her own trek of 270km in Namibia at the time of the Cup Final and will be thinking of West Ham a lot - whilst I am sure she is having the time of her life, she will be truly gutted to be missing out.

I would like to thank both Rob and Stuart for doing the planning and organisation.
