Story

The Mission

Steph and Jess are two friends living on opposite sides of the globe. On May 21st they will embark on a 12 day trek through the Himalayas to reach their final destination - Everest Basecamp.

The Purpose

This mission will not be easy, but it is inspired by the growing need to protect some of the world's most endangered species and the delicate ecosystems they support. In the last century we have lost 97% of the world's tiger species. At the start of the 20th century, it is estimated there were over 100,000 tigers in the world. With as few as 3,200 remaining, action is needed to increase and strengthen their habitat and protect the species from major threats such as poaching. Within the past decade alone, the estimated area known to be occupied by tigers has declined by 41%.

Why Are Tigers So Significant?

As a large predator, the tiger plays a key role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. By protecting one tiger we also protect around 100 sq km of forest which means a lot of other important species and people are subsequently protected too. Not to mention the trees, that provide life-giving oxygen to our own species...

WWF are doing some great work with the 13 tiger countries to create a future for wild tigers, including Nepal, the region we will be trekking through. WWF is committed to doubling the wild tiger population by 2022, through conservation projects across Asia.

How Will My Donation Help?

Your donation could help them:

- end poaching - increase forest patrols and prevent illegal trade in tiger parts

- raise local awareness of the value of tigers and develop eco-tourism

- work with politicians to strengthen laws against poaching and wildlife trading

- encourage government and industry to manage forests more carefully

- resolve conflict with communities by ensuring farmers are paid compensation for for livestock killed

- relocating tigers that stray into inhabited areas, protecting people and ensuring better distribution of tigers

How Will My Money Be Used?

£10 could put an anti-poaching patrol in the field for one day

£20 could buy two walkie-talkies for community patrols in Nepal

£30 could provide a bike to allow a ranger to patrol tiger reserves in India

£50 could pay for two days of training for an anti-poaching sniffer dog

£100 could pay for the training of one field officer in anti-poaching techniques and tiger monitoring in Nepal

ACT NOW!!!

If we don't act now there may be no wild tigers left by 2022. Your donation can help save a tiger today.

Any donation, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated, and WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

So please support our cause. And please do it now! We are running out of time... we leave in 10 days!!!

Jess and I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support xxx
