Story
In September 2021 I was told the words that no one wants to hear being said to them. " I'm sorry but I'm afraid but our scans show that you have prostate cancer and it's at an advanced level.
Since then my life has not been too bad I try to keep positive and I'm grateful that my pain is managed and I'm able to keep on working.
I've since discovered so much about this particular cancer and one of the most encouraging things is that firstly if it's caught early it can be treated secondly is that there have been some fantastic breakthroughs in the treatment of prostate cancer, I myself am on treatments that didn't exist for men over ten years ago and there are more alternatives when this stops working which I'm told it will.
These treatments and new discoveries are not possible with out your help and kind donations into finding hopefully a cure for this cancer and others too.
Prostate Cancer will affect one in 8 men and the statistics are worse for black men. This means you will likely to know someone who will die of this disease in your own lifetime, it could be a dad a brother uncle cousin or friend it is relentless and getting worse.
But with a little bit of knowledge and understanding we can cut the numbers of people that end up with incurable prostate cancer (as I have) considerably.
Men if you notice signs that your weeing habits have changed maybe getting up in the night more frequently than you are used to, blood in your urine ,struggling to go and the onset of sudden sciatica type pains these maybe a warning that you must not ignore.
There is something called a PSA test which checks for signs of rising PSA levels in your blood stream the normal level is anything from 0 to 3 mine was at 288 when I finally was given the test. So many men like me are misdiagnosed each year. Ask your doctor for a PSA test particularly if prostate cancer runs in your family or you get the symptoms I've already mentioned. It could save your life.
