Story
Shaun has very severe M.E. (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) which has made him bedridden, extremely weak and very sensitive to light, sound, touch and stimulation. He is trapped in his own body where the slightest movement can cause him to crash. We miss him very much and wanted to do something for him by raising awareness of M.E. and how severe it can get.
It is an invisible illness, it affects people at different levels and there is no known cure. It's diagnosed by ruling out other illnesses and some do not think it is real or they say it is psychological, so we feel it is misunderstood. We'd like to raise funds for ME Association and their good work in supporting people with M.E. and in research for a cure. We desperately want to see Shaun better and smiling and laughing again like he is in the photo!
We are challenging ourselves to walk 12 miles because Shaun has been bedridden for 12 months. May 12th, M.E. Awareness Day, marks almost a year to the day since his health seriously crashed, though he had not been well for several years prior to that. We're walking in and around Egerton, the area Shaun knows so well and enjoyed walking in.
Shaun's 4 siblings are taking part and we invite anyone who wants to join us in the walk to come too! There is the option to come for part of the walk if you'd prefer a shorter distance. We have a stopping point part way along the route; so joining us for the first part (approx 7.5 miles) or the final part (5 miles) are also options. Please let us know if you are interested and we can send you further information.
This is a group fundraising page, so anyone who is taking part can use this page for their sponsorship.
