Story
Following the devastating loss of baby Barney Stevens-Brewin last year Sean Galloghly, Martin Brewin (Barney's Dad) and Dave Stevens (Barney's Grandad) are on a quest to raise money and awareness for Sands and the work they do in supporting anyone affected by the death of a baby and to promote research into the loss of babies' lives.
Between the 14th & 19th June 2007 we will be walking 150 miles in six days from Carlton Scroop, Lincolnshire to Central London. For more information please visit...

Those of you who know us can vouch for the fact that we are not sportsmen, walkers or into any regular exercise, the idea is for a major personal challenge and to make people take notice. Walking to the car is about our usual limit!
Everyday in the UK 17 babies are stillborn or die within 28 days of birth, that is one baby every 84 minutes - 34 grieving parents - 68 grieving grandparents every day!!! and worse... 70% of stillbirths have no determinable cause. The subject is not talked about and is treated like a taboo we are determined to break the taboo.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
We feel there are four ways that individuals or organisations can help us
- Sponsor us (on this page, how easy is that?) so we can raise vital money for Sands
- Donate items or services that can auctioned or raffled
- To publicise the walk in their respective organisations to raise awareness and potentially expose individuals who can help with our goals, take part in the walk or that may have been affected themselves.
- Donate services or sponsor specific projects for Sands
If you can help in any of the ways above (other that clicking the "Sponsor me now" button which I am sure you will do anyway! Please email me at: walk@babybarney.org.uk
SANDS is the UK’s leading stillbirth and neonatal death charity whose core aims are:
- To support anyone affected by the death of a baby
- Through a National Helpline
- Bereavement counselling
- Local support groups and networks
- To improve care when a baby dies
- Ensuring bereaved families get the support they need
- Advising healthcare professionals in caring for families
- To promote research to reduce the loss of babies’ lives
- Funding vital research in why so many babies are lost. 17 each day in the alone, of which 75% have no detectable cause.
- Find out why the rate has been rising for the past 10 years
The stillbirth rate has been rising since 2000 and vital research work, funded by Sands, need to contine to cut this rate dramatically
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: SANDS will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
