Story
2022 is an important year for me, I will, at 65, become an OAP! It will be my late wife Moira’s 60th Birthday and our 35th wedding anniversary. I very much want to achieve something for which she would be proud.
Moira sadly lost her brave fight with Progressive Multiple Sclerosis in 2020. This left a devastating hole in mine and my daughters lives and I want to do everything I can to raise funds and awareness for MS to prevent others from losing loved ones far too soon.
So, considering there may not be many more years of walking left in me, and my desire to mark Moira’s 60th with something truly memorable, I am planning to take on my biggest challenge ever.
Walking Britain, Side to Side (West Coast to East Coast - Solway Firth to the Firth of Forth), then End to End (Lands End to John O’Groats), and Side to Side again (Solway Firth to North Sea and back to Longtown).
1,800 miles in 100 days!
The Walk will connect all the places of significance in my life with Moira:
The first time we saw each other – in Carlisle 14th April, 1984
Our first date – at Canonbie 17th April, 1984
Our Engagement – on Malham Cove, 21st June 1986
Our Wedding – at Holy Trinity Church Darlington, 19th June 1987
It will finish on the 25th September, Moira’s birthday, in Longtown, her birth place.
The money I raise during my biggest challenge ever will go towards funding MS Octopus project: Advancing clinical trials - giving all MS sufferers the treatment they need.
