Our son, Michael-Lewis had a late diagnosis of Coarctation of the Aorta (narrow artery) and Dilated Cardiomyopathy (enlarged heart), he was transferred from a local hospital to GOSH with just the information that an x-ray had shown an enlarged heart, we arrived on Bear Ward at around 9pm and at 2am Michael-Lewis was fully diagnosed.
Our son received immediate surgery the following morning as other organs were failing and he was at extreme risk of sudden death. Surgery went well but was a longer procedure then usual, following surgery he suffered a 2 minute and 30 second cardiac arrest, the quick response from GOSH during admission, surgery and in ICU means our son safely came home to his big brother.
Our son's care was world class.
GOSH will be part of our lives for many years to come and I am comforted that my son is being cared for by leading cardiac specialist, I hope to raise money to help other children and parents that walk through those magical doors everyday.
