Story
Another day and another challenge; that is life with advanced multiple sclerosis. On Sunday September 13 at the Chilterns MS Therapy Center, (HP22 5LX) I'm going to keep walking for an hour and raise money for this wonderful charity.
Incidentally the Chilterns MS Therapy Centre is celebrating its 35th birthday this autumn.
The pandemic has had an enormous impact on charity income so this is an opportunity to help the Chilterns MS Therapy Centre to survive this difficult period so please do be generous. Your donation will be greatly appreciated by the centre and everyone who uses it
I need a challenge and this is mine for the next few weeks. I might only walk a few hundred metres but staying on my feet and walking is the challenge. I have suffered from MS for far too many years, and the disease is not getting any better. I am now severely disabled and serious exercise is no longer an option.
Walking sticks are no good, they don't stop me falling over so I've thrown them away. Now I must use both hands to hold onto a 4 wheeled walking frame and remember to concentrate as I carefully put one foot in front of the other. Can I manage to keep on the move for sixty minutes?
I need motivation and training to complete this challenge and this is where you can help me. I already know I'm a very slow walker but it has been a few years since I kept going for an hour. Training will be essential.
The Chilterns MS Centre is a wonderful place for people affected by MS. The staff truly understand the physical and emotional problems of MS and provide supportive therapies and treatments. They treat 330 patients each week and no one is ever turned away.
Please make a donation, even just a fiver, so this charity can continue to keep its doors open for people with multiple sclerosis and help the community as well.
A diary of my training to achieve the goal of a one hour walk is given below.
Thank you,
Patrick
