My Walk for Bosnia:

On Saturday 11th July, I will be taking part in Islamic Relief's 'Never Forget Srebrenica' Challenge to commemorate and honour the lives of those lost in the Srebrenica genocide 25 years on. This challenge will be raising funds for Islamic Relief projects which will help rebuild lives of Bosnians impacted by it and continue to respond the way they did after the Bosnian war occurred.

About the Project:

After the war ended in 1995, a large number of families were struck by even more hardship having lost their family members and support networks. Female headed households were faced with many difficulties; many of whom lost everything including their homes. 

Many of these women came from rural areas and were never given the opportunity of higher education or work, so income security became a struggle. Islamic Relief supported many of these families and have continued to do so over the years. As a part of the Child Welfare Programme, Islamic Relief have sponsored a number of orphans and orphan families and visit these families regularly as a part of the project. These visits brought to light the state of their housing - in most cases these orphan families are living in inadequate homes, with poor access to water, low quality infrastructure and insufficient facilities such as bathrooms and kitchens. 

This project aims to provide  vulnerable families with support in setting up a long term livelihood programme in the form of a farming and greenhouse project.  This will allows widowns and female headed house holds to grow thier own crops and sustain themselves and thier children.
