STOP PRESS!!
Wofa has written to thank WORLDwrite volunteers for their "no strings" Xmas appeal. Wofa is showing films each week on a mini 14 inch TV to loads of people and has asked if we can raise the money for a big screen TV to ensure the whole community can watch movies in a local community centre. There are thirty thousand in Old Fadama living in tiny wooden shacks and they want what we have. We need to raise £4,000 fast to fund a monster plasma screen, to contribute towards the electricity bill and fund a satellite connection.
Wofa, representative and resident of the Old Fadama community in Accra, Ghana, ends WORLDwrite's latest documentary, Keeping Africa Small (see trailer to left) by showing us around Old Fadama, the shanty town where he lives. He beseeches western NGOs to stop their behaviour modification programmes and instead provide real development that will transform their lives.
We asked Wofa what his message would be in terms of what people need. He replied:
"Everything!"
So in the spirit of solidarity and the belief that it is our peers who know best, simply donate here and the proceeds will go to Wofa and the Old Fadama community in Accra, Ghana without any strings attached.
In the grand WORLDwrite tradition Viv Regan threw a party for her 40th birthday and asked people to donate to Wofa instead of presents. You could do this too!
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate, as we will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added at no cost to you.
We look forward to hearing from you and sending the cash to Wofa.
Best wishes from all the WORLDwrite team
