Hi there and welcome!
Anyone who knows me will know that I'm a bit of a reluctant runner, I often struggle with motivation and confidence. Last year, I was completely surprised to be a lucky winner of a ballot place in the London Marathon. It arrived with good timing as I had run my first half marathon the day before and could barely walk!!
Anyway...I've been out training hard since the start of the year. I've had some great runs, lots of OK ones and a few terrible ones. But I've kept going. My feet are blistered, my toenail is about to fall off but I'm feeling strong and confident.
Last week, by chance, I went to meet my aunt who had a stall at a local charity event. Whilst I was there, I started reading about the charity the event was for. I was completely blown away by the story of Harvey and the fundraising his mum (another Charlotte!) was doing for him.
Harvey has just turned 9 and his mum says he's a happy and cheeky boy. Harvey suffers from Quadriplegic Spastic Cerebral Palsy due to brain damage (which affects 3 of his limbs, his left arm, hand and both his legs) The left side of his body is affected the most from his head, to his eyes, to his toes. Harvey has a severe vision impairment, he is long sighted & requires glasses. He also has a diagnosis of Global Development Delay which means he is delayed in all areas of communication, learning and needs full assistance with transfers to his equipment and care.
Harvey currently gets 3 group sessions of NHS physio a year. His mum has found some brilliant private physios who have helped Harvey immensely but this all comes at a high cost. Harvey dreams of being able to walk one day, his family hope that with this physio, that dream will become reality. He has already made incredible progress!
All money raised will go to help Harvey - a local boy with a big dream. But he needs our help!
I had never met Charlotte before last week but I couldn't help but admire the way she was doing everything she could to help her child. A real super mum, but even super mums can't do everything on their own. Lets show her our support.
Thanks,
Charlotte xxx
