Five weeks of enriching voluntary work at the Senahasa Childrens Resource Centre in Southern Province Sri Lanka is coming to an end. Now I want to leave there knowing that at least ten children with special needs will be able to purchase wheelchairs in the near future. Each chair costs the equivalent of 225 pounds.
The sight of mothers struggling to carry severely disabled children of all ages with cerebral palsy into the Centre is absolutely heart wrenching. Neither the government or health service can provide these custom made chairs that are so badly needed. Travelling by bus is impossible as buses have no adaptations for disabled people. Therefore children and their carers are isolated in their homes.
The majority of families attending the centre are poor, yet give unending love and care to their children 24/7. I've seen at first hand how the chairs are used and what a difference they have made to both the child and their family's quality of life.
PLEASE help me with this vital fundraising effort. I can guarantee that with the purchase of these chairs you can help to enhance the lives of 10 families, giving them the opportunity to give their child with special needs a more normal and rewarding life.
