We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

CRUK remain tirelessly committed to beating cancer, but they won't be able to continue their funding of life-saving work without ongoing support. The COVID-19 lockdown is affecting us all right now and is causing a huge financial strain on charities. across the world. CRUK is predicting a 25% fall in their fundraising income over the coming financial year, which will have long-term consequences for cancer patients. Yet CRUK are supporting the COVID-19 testing effort and are working to provide support to people affected by cancer.

As a research team, we study how tumours evolve using next-generation imaging sciences. Our work has implications for enabling earlier detection of cancers and better understanding of how to tailor therapies. We benefit from a wide range of funding and support from CRUK in our work. We really appreciate how CRUK have done their utmost to preserve funding for researchers, with many of their staff taking salary cuts or being placed on furlough. Therefore, we have decided to try and do our bit to help. Everyone in the lab has pledged a distance towards our challenge, and as a team we plan to collectively cover a million metres in 4 weeks, starting from VE Day Friday 8th May. Please support us in our effort and keep an eye out here for regular updates on our daily distances!
