Story

Viral Beats is proud to present the Melbourne Takeover in support of the Red Cross Beirut Appeal.

Our collective was born out of our love for sharing music in isolation. As the world emerges from the pandemic we have the opportunity to change it for the better and to make sure nobody gets left behind. This event will be raising donations directly for the Red Cross Beirut Emergency Appeal.

The Lebanese capital, Beirut, is reeling from a massive explosion that ripped through the city on 4 August. The blast devastated the Port of Beirut and has killed more than 100 people, with thousands more injured and many more left homeless.

The devastation to the city and to the people cannot be understated. This is a scary situation. The Lebanese economy was already in deep crisis, the effects of COVID-19 and now the explosion will be devastating. Hospitals have been heavily damaged, and they are overwhelmed with the number of people now needing medical help unable to treat everyone. Some have had to be treated in the streets and many sent to hospitals outside Beirut.

The British Red Cross is working closely with the Lebanese Red Cross who have been responding to the crisis. The immediate focus is on saving lives.
