Story
On 16th April 2020 we were told my daughter Eve had a Brain Tumour, life changed instantly and I couldn't believe what I was hearing, just a few days before we were celebrating her 9th Birthday and in the evening clapping for the NHS - little did I know what the NHS was about to do for my little girl!
On the 21st April Eve underwent a 9 hour operation, the longest day of my life. The incredible team at the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham removed the tumour with just a slight residue remaining. We stayed at the Hospital for a few weeks where she received intensive rehabilitation until she was ready to come home. After a few weeks she started her Radiotherapy treatment, this removed the remaining residue, in May 2021 Eve finished her Chemotherapy treatment.
We had only been at home a few days after the operation when I received a call from Melisa, she was a Support Worker from Young Lives vs Cancer (previously known as Clic Sargent) usually they would be based at the ward but due to Covid-19 we were unable to meet in person but straightaway I knew we didn't have to face this alone - I knew we had family and friends but this was a different sort of help. We had so many phone calls for hospital appointments, I didn't really know which way to turn we had been thrown into a new way of life but Melisa guided me through with practical and emotional support.
I saw this challenge as a way of giving back for all their support they have given me and other families who find themselves in this situation - but I'm not doing this alone, my Brother Richard, his wife Sarah and our cousins Claire, Stephen and Anthony and their partners Gemma & Hayley are taking on the 100K Peak District Challenge in July to raise as much as possible for this incredible charity who sadly will always have to be around for these vulnerable children and their families.
Most of all we want to do this for Eve (BeeBee) as this is nothing in comparison to what she has had to face this year. Eve has been a complete superstar, my absolute hero and I look up to her, in how she has handled all this with such bravery and determination. I am one very proud Mum.
Thank you from Victoria and all of Team BeeBee x
