Story
On the 20th April, my son Bernard, who was 5 weeks old at the time, developed Bronchiolitis. He would not feed, his soft spot dipped, he was breathing fast and was floppy.
Thanks to an amazing friend, we got him to Frimley Park Childrens A&E, where they spent hours trying to stabilise Bernard. He entered Frimley Park with oxygen levels below 40% and the team were unable to get his blood. He was lifeless.
Eventually, Bernards condition stabilised, and he was sent to Frimley Park Children ward with a CPAP machine to help him breathe.
Bernard was expected to stay in hospital for over a week, but was discharged in 5 days.
Today, Bernard is a bright, smiley, happy 4 month old. He still has a cough and nasal problems, but he is so much better.
Whilst in hospital, Tom, my family and I used the Ronald McDonald family room to call friends and family, use the shower facilities and use the family room for some downtime.
After three nights of no sleep, and constantly worried, I was offered to sleep in a bed in the Ronald McDonald family room, away from the machines and stress of the ward. If that bed had not been there, I don't think I would have been able to cope the way I did with Bernard's illness and the journey we had ahead of us.
David Corps (Bernard's uncle), Greg Johnson (Bernard's Godfather), Becki Crooks, Matt Hedges and I, are going to walk 10 miles, from the Langstone Hotel to the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, on the 26th August.
We hope the money we raise will help the Ronald McDonald charity to provide more facilities for parents with ill children, whilst they stay in hospital.
Thank you!
