We provide support & information to anyone affected by ovarian cancer

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Lynne's JustGiving page.

Mum was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in September 2015 after lots of tests and diagnosis of different things. She had to keep pushing, and despite their treatment of all these things the symptoms were not going away. It was only after final bloods and scans that the diagnosis of ovarian cancer was finally given.

Following the diagnosis was the treatment plan. Chemo, followed by a hysterectomy in January 2016 and more chemo to get the last little bits. Chemo was hard, and anyone who has been through chemo or knows anyone who has been through chemo will know. But this time round it worked! We were grateful!

Mum and dad then lived life to its fullest, trips to Venice, Paris, Poland to name a few and mums love of cruises was born. 35 years of marriage (on the 14th August this year), and they were enjoying life the best they could. We also had the best time at my hen do and mum got to see me get married. I am so grateful for this time.

In March 2017 mum got the news that the cancer was back. Another round of treatment,  mum was ready to fight! Unfortunely they had to cancel their trip to Croatia (and then the cruise) but that was ok, the treatment was mums best way to get better. We were warned of the horrible side effects of this type of chemo but mum did so well, she didn't even loose her hair this time round. However, after the final treatment the news was that the chemo hadn't worked and was not shrinking the cancer. We were still positive and the next move was to get a biopsy to see the severity of the disease to decide what was next.

Unfortunately in July, mums health started to decrease rapidly, and at the end of July mum went into Trinity Hospice to help her get fit for more chemo or an operation. However in the hospice mums health got even worse and the doctor and nurses there were preparing us for the worst. But mum (and us) wanted to fight, so on Wednesday 2nd August we went to hospital to get some answers. Unfortunately there was nothing they could do and they explained to us that the cancer had spread and mums side effects were of the cancer and not the medication.

On Thursday 3rd August the nurses and doctors told us that mum would definetly not be able to have an operation and that she was too poorly for chemo. At this point it was decided to make mum comfortable and made sure she was never on her own.

Mum was so brave and she fought until her very last breath! On Saturday the 5th August at around 9.30am mum's pain was over. She died with Kat, Dad and I with her, holding her hand and talking through the good times.

This was such a diffficult time for mum, dad, Kat and I, but the support, compassion and care that the staff at the hospital showed us will never be forgotten. The NHS really is amazing and every single person we crossed was brilliant!
