On Sunday 22 April 2018, a team of Donkey Sanctuary supporters will take on the London Marathon hoping to raise £10,000 to help donkeys and mules living and working in appalling conditions worldwide.

Story

I managed to gain a ballot place in the 2018 London Marathon-eek! First thought 'oh my god, what have I done' second thought 'I really should run for a charity'.  But whom...

I knew I wanted it to be an animal charity whom I had never been asked to sponsor before and whom I knew would really be grateful to any amount I was able to raise.  Tucked away on one of the last pages with the smallest advert I noticed The Donkey Sanctuary asking for support.  Then I remembered how much I love donkeys!  It must stem from the original grumpy Eeyore (I have since adopted a donkey of the same name, under instruction from my son who wanted to adopted Eeyore's best friend...... you've guessed it Pooh), or maybe it's the childhood memories of donkey rides on the beach.  Whatever the reason, they are just the most beautiful, uncomplicated and friendly creatures and a great cause to run for.

The charity won't be spending any money on fancy post marathon parties or massages like some of the larger more well known charities, every penny raised really matters and goes directly into the charity. And although when it comes down to it I might regret the lack of a massage post 26.2 miles, I would rather know that those who have been generous to donate are helping a worthwhile cause and not my legs!

No matter how little you are able to donate, it will all make a big difference to the lives of the donkeys within the UK and across the world.

Did you know each year they provide 46,000 therapy sessions for children and adults with additional needs as well as rehoming and caring for 5,500 donkey and mules? They really do amazing work.

This will be my first ever marathon at the wrong side of 40. To be honest I am completely terrified and a little bit excited.  Any encouragement you could provide through sponsorship, no matter how small would be massively appreciated by me and all those at The Donkey Sanctuary.

Thank you xx
