I am taking part in a gruelling cycle challenge across Jordan which will see me cycle between 60-105km per day for four days to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. Weather conditions will be extreme, ranging from severe cold as we approach Petra to soaring temperatures of 40°C across the Arava desert. So please, please dig deep in your pockets so that I can raise enough money to give me the incentive to power through those moments of darkness and achey legs!

There are 700,000 people with dementia in the UK with numbers to rise to one million by 2025. Dementia is not a natural part of ageing and there is currently no cure. I decided to take on the Cycle Jordan challenge for Alzheimer’s Society because it is such a terrible disease which can affect anyone at any age. Knowing any money raised will go towards this charity and finding a cure for Alzheimer’s makes this challenge a very worth while cause. Although my life has not been affected by anyone with dementia directly, it may well be something I face in the future and money is drastically needed to aid and improve the level of care given to sufferers and their families. One in three people over 65 will die with dementia. It is more than just memory loss; it gradually robs people of their lives and has a devastating impact on families and loved ones.
