Myself, Nadine Wightman, Sam Ward and Sarah Webb are raising money for Willen Hospice and this is why.
2 years ago our friend Hayley Wright was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought and after months of gruelling treatment she beat the awful disease. Throughout treatment she was strong and never let it get the better of her. Then in January this year she was given the devastating news that the cancer had returned. Again she faced it head on a was willing to do everything in her power to beat it. Unfortunately the cancer had spread too far. Hayley went to Willen Hospice and spent 8 days in their care. When visiting her in the hospice there were nerves about what it would be like, but there was nothing to be nervous about. It is like a home from home and you feel completely relaxed when you are there. There was nothing different to our usual get togethers, lots of tea, chat, giggles and chocolate. The staff at Willen are amazing people that work so hard to make the patients and the family and friends feel comfortable and relaxed. We miss Hayley every day but we are so grateful for everything the staff did to make Hayley's last days as comfortable as possible. Doing the Midnight Moo means we can help support Willen in continuing the amazing care for other families that are going through this hugely difficult time.
Willen Hospice provides specialist end-of-life care for adults, focusing on four key areas: specialist symptom control, emotional support, spiritual support and care for carers.Often the most distressing aspect of living with life-limiting illnesses is the types of pain and symptoms which can arise. Our team of dedicated staff and volunteers can give compassionate, specialist support to patients, and their family members, to help deal with, as they wish to, the physical and emotional effects of both their illness and treatments.
