Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My twin sister Mags and I shared a wonderful 42 years together. We knew we were lucky to be twins, to be born with a best friend at our side and into the most amazing family. Then last April, completely out of the blue, Mags was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer. Despite a hard and brave fight, Mags lost her life to this vile disease just 10 months later on 25 February 2015.
The shock and pain at losing Mags is difficult to describe. Learning to live without her and knowing what she suffered in her last few months with us is immeasurably painful and difficult.
Our family knew virtually nothing about pancreatic cancer before Mags' diagnosis. We quickly learned that although being fit, young and energetic took Mags completely outside any typical category for this dreadful disease, there remains a lot of uncertainty about what causes pancreatic cancer and the risk factors associated with it. Once it takes hold, it can develop quickly, often with few symptoms.
Pancreatic cancer is the 5th most common cancer in the UK yet it is one of the most under-funded of all cancers and has the lowest survival rate.
In an attempt to do something positive during this tough time - both in honour of Mags' memory and to support those trying to find ways to beat pancreatic cancer and help those suffering from it - my lovely family and some fantastic friends and I have decided to attempt to cycle from London to Paris at the end of September to raise awareness and much needed funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
