Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This time 12 months ago I had just completed The Aspire Channel Swim equivalent in the swimming pool (swum in 1 or 2 mile sections) and was asked to consider swimming in a relay team across The English Channel in Summer 2018.
As many of you will know only days later I was diagnosed with aggressive Stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer. I was quickly launched into the unwelcome world of biopsies, Hickman lines, surgery and chemotherapy; to mention but a few of the hideous things I had to face.
In the months that followed I couldn’t even swim due to the central lines I had fitted and also the high risk of infection :( I was very ill at times and was admitted to hospital on numerous occasions. To be honest getting out of bed was a struggle most days, so swimming The Channel couldn’t have been further from my mind.
So of course once I had finished treatment it felt only natural to find a new challenge! So in a bid to get back to fitness and raise money for an amazing charity please support me in my madness, every little helps :)
I will join a Team of 6 (currently complete strangers!) as part of Team Hammerhead and we will swim, weather permitting, sometime in August 2018 This video will give you an idea of what this challenge entails https://youtu.be/Kg-qFn69iCs
While this film may show you why I’m inspired to help https://youtu.be/TXHdBMRmqvc Aspire’s aim, to help those affected by spinal injury to get ‘from injury to Independence’ really struck a chord with me as I’ve faced this in my own way on several occasions. They use the money raised to provide specialist equipment for housing, sport and technology for those wanting to get back to work.
