Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was surprised last month when I got through the Semi-Finals to be chosen as one of the 40 finalists for the Miss Hertfordshire 2010 competition which is taking place on 16th May in Stevenage. Thank you to Katie from Totality Spa in Tring for supporting me in sponsoring my place in the final! One of the challenges we have been given is to raise as much money as we can for the charity Hearing Dogs. Hearing Dogs is a very special charity which helps deaf children and adults regain their confidence and their lives back into the hearing world, by their special companions. 75% of their dogs are selected from rescue centres, the remainder they rely on donations of dogs from private homes, breeders and unwanted litters. The dogs are carefully trained and socialised by volunteers who play a vital part in helping a deaf person to enjoy the benefits of confidence, security and a new found independence. Hearing Dogs through the distinctive burgundy Hearing Dogs coat ensure that deafness is not an invisible disability. Having a dog myself (Alfie, a Cavelier King Charles Spaniel) I appreciate as a hearing person just how special the relationship you can have with your dog is. Hearing dogs, however, literally change lives. I am planning a number of fundraisers and I want to say thank you to those people who have already started helping me achieve my £500 target. Mum for being my ‘Fundraising Manager’!, Phil who ran the Bournemouth Bay Half Marathon and has already collected nearly £200.00. Costa Coffee who allowed us all to have great fun dressing up the store and ourselves for the day and donating a wonderful prize for the raffle.Charities pay a small fee for our service.
