The NAPAC (National Association for People Abused as Children) supports adults abused as children. I recently read that there are over 200,000 charities in the UK, but there is only one national charity dedicated to adults abused in childhood.
The NAPAC recognises that the majority of children do not deal with their abuse until well into adulthood, suffering with various forms of dissociation as a coping method, or too afraid to talk as children.
Child abuse, be it physical or sexual, continues to be a taboo subject, it's the most secretive and covered up of crimes. For those who haven't experienced it seems very hard to believe and difficult to hear. Silence and secrecy are some of the abusers' favourite tools - break the silence.
Sponsor me and help me raise awareness.
