Story
Kingfishers is a supported housing project for eight 18-25 year olds with learning disabilities. We enable young people to develop independence, take responsibility for their lives and to manage the transition from adolescence to adulthood. The ultimate aim for a young persons placement at Kingfishers is for them to develop the skills that will enable them to live in their own homes, within their community with minimal support. Each young person has their own bedroom with en-suite, shared communal kitchen , living and garden space.
"Kingfishers has given me the confidence to become more independent. I have learnt to cook, do my laundry and am starting work experience"
Kingfishers gave me the support I needed, I can go to Stroud on my own now. I can go to college, meet up with friends, I do like the help I get, I get a lot more done than I did before.
Kingfishers are currently in need of a new shed to house freezers for our young adults as the current shed is rotting. Whilst a new shed does not sound like the most exciting item to support a charity with, we have no where else to store our freezers. A freezer is an essential every day item, we want our young adults to have the same conveniences that we all take for granted.
Young people and staff have pledged to walk a total of 400kms between Friday 15th and Saturday 31st October. We will be tracking this daily.
Each kind donation will give the young adults motivation to keep walking towards their target of a new shed, a sense of achievement and empowerment, that they can achieve the funds needed as a team.
