Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On March the 19th I will be participating in the 6km Memory Walk and Jog for Alzheimer's Australia. Alzheimer's is the "most common form of dementia, affecting up to 70% of all people with dementia" (Alzheimer's Australia). Importantly I'm participating in the walk to raise money for further research into Alzheimer's and dementia, but also because it is a disease which hits close to home for me.
My late grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in her late sixties and it slowly progressed in severity until she passed away in her mid-seventies due to other health issues. Last year my Nan was also diagnosed with Alzheimer's and I have watched her memory decrease as a result of it. As with many other diseases, it is not an illness that only effects the individual, it effects everyone around them, as they see a loved one slowly lose their independence and forget who they are.
With the current medical advances in research, I believe that a cure will be found in the foreseeable future with the help of donations such as your own.
