Story
The Little Lane Nursery employs over 40 women across both of our nurseries - with the statistics of 1 in 7 developing breast cancer, that's almost 6 of the team that could be affected, a scary statistic. It is easy to think that as young women we don't need to worry too much about breast cancer, it's something older people get, the simply fact is, you're never too young. We need to raise awareness and talk about breast cancer, we need to get to know our boobs and know what is and isn't normal for us. When caught early, breast cancer survival rates are high.
As a nursery family, we have had personal experience of cancer with colleagues and parents of children at nursery, as well as with our own families. It's personal and real.
CoppaFeel! are the first UK breast cancer charity to create awareness amongst young people, with the aim to install a new healthy habit that could one day save a life. They are on a mission to stamp out late detection of breast cancer and ensure the nation is checking their boobs regularly. They want to educate people on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, encourage them to get to know what is normal for them and empower young people to have the confidence to see a doctor if they notice anything that isn't right for them.
On behalf of The Little Lane Nursery, I (Victoria) will be undertaking this challenge with the Coppafeel Charity - walking 100km over 5 days in the Sahara Desert to raise money for this amazing charity.
For me personally, I will be will walking in support of my mother in law, Christine, who during the pandemic was diagnosed with breast cancer - fortunately, with some gruelling treatment, she is one of the lucky ones and is now in remission.
