Bupa Great North Run 2011 · 18 September 2011 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

That's me, in the picture, looking rather red. That's only after a 3 mile run! Imagine how I'm going to look after 13 miles!

I haven't been training like a demon, I'm not a running junkie, but I thought hey, I'd really like to raise some money for The Stroke Association. So I put my name on their waiting list (I was 34th so thought the chances may be slim) but then the phone call came. Uh oh, crisps away and running shoes firmly attached to feet.

My family and I know first hand the effect strokes can have on lives and in the extreme losing someone you love because of them. With three family members that have already experienced strokes, I couldn't think of a charity I wanted to raise money for more.

Everybody has a charity that is close to their hearts and this is one of mine. This may not be at the top of the list for you, but I promise photos will follow the race to show how red I get. Who knows, I may even turn purple. Eugh. Definitely motivation to sponsor me though!

So to find out what colour I can reach and support The Stroke Association along the way, please sponsor me. However small or large, every single pound is greatly appreciated!
