Harry’s little sister was born 10 weeks early, immediately after birth she was taken to the Oliver Fisher Premature baby unit. She needed surfactant to help her lungs, she was ventilated for a few days and she spent a total of 7 weeks on the Unit. The care she received there was the very best, the nurses treated her like one of their own and we became part of the Oliver Fisher family.
The government and primary care trusts provide the unit and pays for the staff but the money available to equip and staff a large intensive care unit is never sufficient.
The cost per day to care for a baby in Intensive care is approximately £1600. In High Dependency this goes down to £800/day and on Special Care its £500/day.
Charlotte spent a week in intensive care so that alone would have cost 11,200!!! That is before we count the other 5 weeks she spent in HDU and then 1 week in special care!
The cost never come into it for the team they simply gave her all the Medicine, care and love she needed and I honestly believe if it was not for their amazing work my beautiful little girl would not be here today and she certainly wouldn’t be thriving like she is.
Harry said he wanted to give something back to them which for a 6 year old is amazing and very thoughtful. He’s wanted to climb a mountain for a little while now so with the help of his mummy and daddy he will be climbing it in May 😁😁😁
