Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
At the beginning of the year, I signed up to all five swims in the Great Swim Series. These are five outdoor swims all over the UK in Lake Windermere, Alton Park (Suffolk), Salford Quays, London and Loch Lomond in Scotland. Each swim is 1 mile long which is the equivalent of around 66 lengths in a 25m pool.
The first swim I took part in was the Great North Swim in Lake Windermere. I completed the swim in 1 hour and 27 seconds.
Unfortunately, the Great East Swim which I was due to take part in on 22 June 2013 was cancelled this year due to bad weather.
On 20 July 2013 I took part in the Great Manchester Swim and completed that in the much quicker time of 44 minutes and 26 seconds. It's amazing what difference the weather conditions make!
On 24 August 2013 I completed the Great Scottish Swim in beautiful Loch Lomond in 44 minutes and 49 seconds.
On 31 August 2013 I completed the Great London Swim in Milwall Docks in my quickest time yet - 40 minutes and 32 seconds. This was the last Great Swim of the 2013 series.
On 5 October 2013, I completed my last open water swim for 2013. This was the Macmillan Lido Challenge which took place at Tooting Bec Lido in London. It was my longest swim to date - 2K which is the equivalent of just over 1.2 miles. I completed that swim in 59 minutes and 20 seconds. I signed up for this swim due to the cancellation of the Great East Swim.
I am raising money for Macmillan as they do great work for those affected by cancer which is something that unfortunately touches many people's lives.
By donating, you can help save lives. £15 could pay for 32 copies of "The Cancer Guide". £100 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for 4 hours. £951 pays for a Macmillan nurse for a week and £1,474 could operate Macmillan's phone service for 2 hours - enough time to answer 54 calls and emails from people who need emotional, practical or financial support.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now. If I could get to £1,500 (which would be 3 times by original target) I would be so overjoyed and I know such a large amount of money would help Macmillan do great things.
