On July 30th 2021 Monday 2nd August, Alex and I (and now Tom) will be throwing ourselves out of a plane at 14,000ft, to raise money and awareness for Transverse Myelitis and the Brain and Spine Foundation. 🙈

In December 2020, after a few years of noticing a considerable deterioration in my mobility, I was diagnosed with Cervical Transverse Myelitis. 

Cervical Transverse Myelitis (CTM) is a rare neurological degenerative condition, only affecting 300 people per year. CTM often causes patients to live their life in a wheelchair.  The condition causes a large area of inflammation in the spinal cord (specifically for me in the cervical area/neck), blocking or delaying messages to the rest of my body. The inflammation causes considerable permanent damage and scarring to the spinal cord.

CTM affects everyone differently - personally, I am very unsteady on my feet and my legs are constantly weak and painful, only being able walk short distances (a far cry from hurdles or a marathon a few years ago - which maybe a good thing?!) 😂

Due to the nature of CTM, it’s not known how fast my physical condition will deteriorate, therefore I have decided to jump out of a plane at 14,000 ft... and drag my husband along with me 😂 he took some persuading!
