My Story

My son Luca was aged 5 when he suffered an extremely rare reaction to a usually very common treatable virus.  The virus went directly to Luca's brain causing it to swell, Luca died within 24 hours.

In our darkest hour my husband and I were determined to make sure that his untimely death was not in vain and made the important decision to donate Luca's organs. This decision in turn saved 4 lives, Luca saved the lives of 2 very young children and 2 adults. And probably many more through the surge of Organ Donation Registration following his tragic death.

Luca was a very happy little boy who attended St Hugh's Catholic Primary School in Timperley, Manchester.  He is  fondly remembered there through his brother Leo, his classmates and teachers who strive to keep his memory very much alive.

Our intention is to raise as much as possible for the Donor Family Network who help families like us who have loved ones who have either given or have received an organ.  They are an amazing organisation who give help and support to families at their most difficult times and work tirelessly to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation. We are raising money for the DFN through the St James Place Foundation who match the amount raised.

Last year Team Luca ran the Manchester Bupa 10k on 18/05/14 which not only raised awareness for the importance to register for organ donation but also raised over £1800 for the Donor Family Network. This year we would love to reach the £2000 mark. The response we had last May was amazing and we hope to have the same level of support.

By donating we can continue to raise awareness of organ donation and help to support families like mine. 

Whether you have children or not, it is easy to understand how devastating it must be to lose the most precious thing in your life when their life has barely begun.

It's worth it to keep running.........
