Story
In March 2019, I will be fundraising for Gingerbread by running the London Landmarks Half Marathon, I have completed lots of runs in the past, but promised myself I would not raise money for a charity unless I could really support the charity’s core beliefs and one that is personal to me.
In 2003 at the age of 21 I fell pregnant with my beautiful son Charlie. Unfortunately due to several reasons in 2007 I embarked on my journey as a single parent.
The thing that struck me the most, was the sudden vulnerability you feel when becoming a parent. The gingerbread site and local support explained all the financial and emotional support available to me. With this support I was able to move into my own place with a Charlie and found a great entry level job. The exhilaration I felt the day I moved into my new home with Charlie was amazing and something I will never forget.
Fast forward 10 years, I have a wonderful partner and fantastic career. I am confident without the resources provided by Gingerbread this would not be possible.
Unfortunately, my story is not unique so I am supporting Gingerbread and all this single parent who just need a little support and guidance that I was lucky to receive.
A bit more about Gingerbread.....
Gingerbread are the leading charity working for and with single parent families, supporting, advising and campaigning with single mums and dads to help them meet their familys needs and achieve their goals. Nearly one in four families in the UK are now headed by a single parent, yet many single parent families continue to experience poverty, disadvantage and stigma. You can help them to achieve their vision of a society in which single parents are valued and treated fairly by supporting my fundraising for the London Landmarks Half Marathon today. Your donation will help single parents across the country to receive expert advice and practical support as well as making it possible for their voices to be heard through Gingerbreads campaigning work.Your support would really mean a lot to me, Gingerbread and the thousands of single parent families they support each and every year. Thank you.
