Story
By taking part in challenge events sponsored skydive, I am hoping to raise funds for island families who need us the most. To promote and to provide good care and support for those people living with, affected by, or curious about death, dying and bereavement across the Isle of Wight.
As you will all know, my Nanny Pat and Grandad Den were blessed to have the wonderful care, compassion and expertise of the teams at Mountbatten IOW at the end of their lives and as a family we are truly grateful to have had the amazing support and such kindness from what can only be described as a life changing experience. I remember one of the team talking to me one day about a ‘perfect death’. I really couldn’t understand this concept of this meaning at the beginning of this journey I went though? How could this possibly be with someone I love so dearly and who was so precious to me? But, as time went on and I grew to know the team and could see and understand what they were doing to help make Nan and grandad’s days more comfortable and attending to and helping us attend to their every need, it was all becoming clear! There really is such a thing as a perfect death and they helped my grandparents and us as a family to achieve that, nothing was ever to much trouble, the time they took and the kindness that was shown will stay with me forever and I am eternally grateful to have been able to experience this heartbreaking time with such, love, kindness and dignity.
I am now part of that wonderful team, working on the inpatient unit and oh boy what an amazing experience it is. Now being able to feel I can give just a little bit back to such a great team and help patients and families in similar situations to mine really is the most amazing thing and such a privilege!
To now see what actually goes on behind the scenes to enable us to be able to deliver the care and support we do is phenomenal. When we say every penny counts, it really does. I would absolutely love it if all my lovely friends and family could help me to achieve my goal in raising funds for the remarkable Mountbatten IOW. I know times are hard right now and financial situations have changed for many people, but anything no matter how big or small will honestly go a long way to helping and I would be so very grateful. I will keep you all updated on how I do!! Thank you in advance to everyone.
Living, Dying, remembering. 🌻
